The Description of this Oaza Zdravlja Pharmacy project by Karim Rashid :

The architectural forms and weight of this space reference the beautiful intricacies of the human body and healing process. Through the use of soft flowing walls and organic shapes a sense of comfort and security is immediately established. Framed by the sweeping curvature of the walls, a simple, yet powerful counter elegantly hovers above the ground plane. This form is symbolic of the journey medication takes through the body’s cellular framework. Beyond this emblematic expression, the organic counter is also the literal location that provides the medicinal means to recovery and relief.

The Escher Coffee Table Furniture by Toby Howes

This interesting Escher coffee table furniture ideas was designed by British designer Toby Howes with an inspiration comes from the tessellation pieces of birds and fish by artist M.C. Escher. The designer wanted to create a modern design piece that combined his usual simplicity of style with a real edge & this is the result.

The escher coffee table features three walnut inlaid arcs that slide out to become side tables. With flashes of red being revealed as the arcs are removed, the central zebrano piece subsequently becomes more like a sculpture. The zebrano wraps around the inside of the funnels of each ‘arm’ of the central piece to form a funnel, rather like that of an old-fashioned gramapohone, that draws the eye in through the centre. This is especially effective if light is streaming through one of the funnels & I have been working on a version with a light actually built into the heart of the table to achieve exactly this effect. The flashes of red on the sides are completely hidden whilst the table is whole & are only revealed as the arcs are removed.

The Escher Coffee Table
Dimensions : 450mm high 800mm wide and deep
Materials : Walnut and Zebrano
Designer : Toby Howes

Traditional Japanese House Design with Modern Touch by Foster + Partners

This great Kawana House is a japanese residential architecture project designed by Foster + Partners. The Kawana house, with its adjoining guesthouse is a fusion of the Japanese love of harmony and respect for nature and the Western refinement of a dematerialized architecture of steel and glass. The house is an exploration of traditional Japanese architecture in a modern context.

The building’s sited on a dramatic stretch of volcanic coastline where long, inaccessible fingers of lava jut into Sagami Bay, the change in levels across the site and the views out to sea are central to the projects design. Set on a raised platform, the house is positioned so that the main living areas have uninterrupted views out to sea.

Services and storage areas are arranged around the perimeter, allowing the central accommodation to be configured as one continuous, open and flowing space. The framed structure creates seven rectangular bays defining the main spaces. These top-lit spaces can be subdivided by means of sliding screens, while adjustable louvres control the quality of natural light through the glazed roof.

Full-height glazed sliding doors line the perimeter, allowing the living spaces to open out on to adjoining terraces, thus eroding divisions between inside and out. The surrounding landscape combines new elements with existing features. Mature trees line the cliff top, while newly planted camphor trees provide privacy from the road. Stone lanterns, some dating from the eighth century, are positioned around the house and a small teahouse of the late Edo period, brought from Shimane prefecture, completes the overall composition.
